Children's EducationCongregation Adath Israel has a deep commitment to Jewish education. We teach grades Kindergarten through 7th grade, including Hebrew studies from 4th grade on. Kindergarten - Third GradeThe primary grades serve as an orientation for the more intensive instructional program beginning in the fourth grade. During the primary years a foundation of concrete Jewish experiences will be introduced. It will enable the young child to gain an acquaintance with Judaism by taking part in a variety of fun activities such as crafts, stories, songs, music, dance and drama.
The following holidays are taught in season: Shabbat, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Chanukah, Tu B’Shevat, Purim, Passover, Yom Ha’atzma’ut (Independence Day), Lag B’Omer and Shavuot. The primary grades meet once a week on Sunday mornings. Fourth - Seventh GradesThese grades meet both on Sunday mornings and one afternoon a week. Instruction becomes more extensive in preparing students for their bar and bat mitzvahs as well as the rest of their lives as a Jew. These grades meet together on Sunday morning for a combined 30-minute class with the Rabbi before going to their individual classes. The students learn a variety of songs (Hebrew, English and Liturgical) and dance that relate to Shabbat, holidays, siddur and Israel. |
